FREEDOM FOR FATOS NANO

Today the Court of Appeal is being asked Today a special hearing will take place at the Court of Appeal. At this session, the request by Fatos Nano’s defense lawyer for the temporary release of the Socialist Party leader will be examined. This time, unlike in previous hearings, the case will be judged by a special three-member panel. The defense lawyer’s request for the release of the PS chairman was submitted at the very beginning of this process and has been reiterated consistently, but it has been rejected several times. In support of his request, the lawyer has presented Mr. Nano’s state of health, the absence of any risk of evading the investigation, as well as the fact that he is a member of parliament and the leader of the country’s largest opposition party. At today’s hearing, the prosecution’s arguments regarding this request are also expected to be made known. Public opinion, and especially the supporters of the Socialist Party, are following with interest the decision the Court of Appeal will make in this case of political and legal importance. Meeting of the HESSH progress committee

The two steering committees of the Albanian euro-socialist project will hold a joint meeting at the beginning of next week to discuss the progress made so far in the programs undertaken within the framework of HESSH. Following the international invitations, representatives of the Albanian opposition have stressed the need for political dialogue to resolve crises and common problems. According to them, the country needs functioning institutions and respect for democratic standards.
